Today we will introduce an interesting & unique Tuscan tradition: the Vinsanto wine. “Vinsanto” ( “vino” = wine, “santo” = holy) is a delicious semi-sweet white wine obtained by two local Tuscan grape varieties: Trebbiano and Malvasia. It’s called like this (Holy Wine) because in the past it was used during the religious Mass. From September until December, grapes are hung in a special charming room called “Vinsantaia” in order to dry up before aging in small wooden barrels called “caratelli”.
